Like most of the country, Honolulu’s Stay at Home Order is now a Safer at Home Order, ending on June 30th.
One thing that’s never changed has been the ability to exercise. Even when sitting on the beach was forbidden, you could still swim and surf. Walking is my exercise of choice and it’s been a great way to learn about Honolulu.
On one of my most recent “long” walks, I came across the Fort DeRussy Armed Forces Recreation Center. The location is the home of the Hale Koa Hotel (House of the Warrior) an 817-room, world–class resort hotel and favorite R&R destination for our country’s military personnel. The US Army Museum of Hawaii is also there.
I continued my walk and made my way to Waikiki for a fabulous view of diamond head. If I were in better shape, I would try walking all the way there. I might try it, someday.
So far, I’ve spent most of my “beach” time walking to and from Ala Moana Beach Park. The area offers acres of shady trees, picnic tables, and a wide expanse of grass to play around in the park, a yacht club, three concession stands, and an additional half crescent beach called Magic Island. The park is across the street from the ALA Moana Mall.
I know that at some point, I will need to work on my speed. For now, I’m just happy to walk my 10000 steps, every other day.
I look forward to the day, when I will no longer need a 24 hour break, between walks. –GGT
