Chiang Rai Blue Temple – Wat Rong Suea Ten

A short distance from my hotel

Today, I decided to play tourist. That’s not so easy, when you’re traveling solo. Most of the online tour companies are setup for groups and want a minimum two people.

I made sure to sit here and take it all in.

So, I decided to make my own way to the Blue Temple. It’s only a 40 minute walk from my hotel. Don’t worry. I didn’t walk. I opted to take a ride share (Grab). The cost was 78 Baht, but I gave the driver 100 (less than $3.00).

I went at 1:00 pm, so did lots of others!

The Blue Temple is known in Thai as “Wat Rong Suea Ten”, or “Temple of the Dancing Tiger”. The grounds were abandoned nearly a century ago. The local village decided to rebuild the temple in 1996 and began the project in 2005.

Queen of the selfie!

Construction was completed in 2016, although some work continues today. The Blue Temple is supposedly less crowded than the more popular White Temple. There also another added bonus, there’s no entrance fee.

Living that Tuk Tuk Life!

After touring, I stopped and had lunch at The Bike Coffee Cafe. It’s directly across the parking lot from the entrance. I then hired a Tuk Tuk for the ride home. He charged 100 Baht.

All and all, today was a great tourist day. There’s a massage parlor across the street from my hotel. That’s all I’m doing tomorrow! XOXO—GGT
