My Own Little Private … San Pedro Sula

My tiny house is the one in the middle.

After a few months of non stop travel, I took a break and booked a Tiny House, via AirBnB. The property is in a gated community. I was given a code that had to be scanned, by security, each time I entered the community. The host has two types of properties, single container units or two story tiny houses.

Downstairs kitchen and upstairs bedroom/bathroom

The space was two levels. The kitchen was downstairs. It had a refrigerator and a stove that ran on gas. My host provided me with a standup fan. Although the kitchen had a sink, with running water, I only drank bottled water that I could freeze. The temperature was in the 90s (feels like 110) range, for almost my entire stay. The bedroom and bathroom were upstairs.

Well … since I’m here!

I decided to do my six month dental cleaning appointment, in San Pedro Sula. My dentist (picked on Google using a “Dentist near me” search) was amazing. She spoke English and did the best cleaning I’ve had in years. I might return to her, in another six months!

Once a Peace Corps Volunteer …

It’s amazing how quickly you can fall back into your old Peace Corps habits. It was great being able to shop and cook for myself. The gated community had a small grocery shop. After two weeks of just making do, I caved and took an Uber to Walmart. I was very happy with my haul!

Community Road Trip

My AirBnB host invited me to a few events, during my stay. The last one was a trip to the beach. After being so hot for so long, it was a wonderful break, once the temperature went down. I have never walked on sand so hot or swam in water that warm.

We took two cars and two dogs!

The point of spending a month at the Tiny House was a self imposed writing retreat. I was able to write about ten sketches that will be edited into a chapter in my autobiography. The solitude and heat, in the Tiny House complex, made it the perfect place to reflect.

I’m already missing Central America!

I am so happy the I switched my agenda from South to Central America. I was in Colombia, but needed to meet a friend in Aruba. So, I flew to Panama and then visited the ABC Islands, backwards. I had so much fun in Panama that I decided to visit Central America and save South America for later this year.

I now can’t believe that Central America was never on my travel bucket list! It was amazing and trust me … it should be added to yours! XOXO —GGT
